Customized Eye Chart Maker – Great for Personalized Gifts and Home Decor

When I’m going to a wedding or a baby shower, I almost always go off the person’s registry. It’s quick, easy, and you KNOW they want the gift you’re giving them. But through the years, I have talked to SO many people that despise the idea of a registry. They find it impersonal, and they want their gift to be special; a one of a kind thing that the person they’re giving it to will remember them every time they look at it.

But coming up with those ideas is hard, and often expensive. And if it’s neither of those, than it’s probably not something anyone would like, right? Well, here’s an idea for you… a customized eye chart.

You know what I’m talking about! An eye chart, like the kind you read at the doctor’s office or DMV to make sure you don’t need glasses. Well, did you know you can make those things say almost anything! And since they’re positioned in such an inadvertent way, they look kind of like a piece of abstract art when hanging on a wall.

They’re not cheesy, obnoxious, or cheap looking. They’re fun and quirky, and if framed correctly, guaranteed to be a treasure the person you’re showering will absolutely love!

When I decided I wanted to make an eye chart for my girlfriend for her bridal shower, I didn’t know where to begin. I started trying to position letter in a Word document, playing with fonts and spacing. It didn’t work.

Then I moved to my Silhouette Cameo design studio. I thought I could play around with font sizes, cut the letter out, and then space them myself. But that didn’t work either.

FINALLY, I just decided to code something myself (well, and by code myself I mean hire someone on Odesk to code it for me). A customized eye chart maker that would allow me to change fonts, colors, and wording and provide a perfectly spaced eye chart every time.

And although I can’t exactly tell you how to code the program yourself, I’ve decided to share it on my blog so that you too can make your own customized eye chart for any gift (or just for yourself because they’re so cool).

MAKING YOUR EYE CHART

1. The eye cart is optimized for 58 characters. If you have less than 58 characters, try using symbols. They really add to the look of the eye chart.
2. If you have WAY less than 58 characters, use enough characters to fill up the last line of text, then stop. Make sure to download your eye cart in a X-LARGE or XX-LARGE format (for best quality if you want prints larger than 4×6″).
3. If you have more than 58 characters, try using numbers instead of spelling everything out.
4. If the image had trouble loading once you type in your font and choose your colors, delete a couple characters and retype. Give the application a few seconds to load your new image.
   • I’ve found this to be the case more than once. Just be patient, your image will load if you follow my tip.

PAYING FOR YOUR EYE CHART – CHECKOUT

1. Once you are done, and you are directed to PayPal to pay, it will cost you $4.99 per download.
2. If PayPal does not automatically direct you back to MissBiziBee.com after you pay, press the RETURN TO MISS BIZI BEE button (see below highlighted by the BIG RED ARROW):

DOWNLOADING AND PRINTING YOUR EYE CHART

1. Once back on Miss Bizi Bee, your eye chart will appear WITHOUT a watermark. Choose from the drop down menu at the top which size you’d like the download to be (or PDF). Then, right click on the image to download and save it to your computer (see picture below):

1. For perfect printing, upload your image to Costco’s photo site (or other online photo printer), and have it printed there (in matte finish, not lustre) in the EXACT size you want it. Again, make sure you download your eye chart in the X-LARGE or XX-LARGE format to ensure perfect printing for anything above a 4×6″ size.
   • In all my photos, my charts were downloaded in XX-LARGE size, and then sent to Costco photo to be printed in 8×10″ size.

Eye Chart Maker – Cute Gift Examples

Just to be clear, the eye chart maker is NOT just for shower gifts. It’s rad for ANYTHING. I saw a friend of mine post a cool eye chart with Drake lyrics the other day (copied in examples below). They are GREAT to use as gifts for ANY occasion (birthdays, housewarmings, etc), or just to spruce up your own home. They give any space a sense of YOU.

Eye charts with actual SAYINGS are hard to find, and aren’t seen that often. They get your own unique style across, without being too overt. Having one hanging in your house is sure to be a talking point amongst guests. You may hear one sided conversations in your hallway go something like this:

So really, this is a semi-DIY post. You’re making something yourself (on a chart maker computer application) for your home, or for a friend. You probably wouldn’t be able to do this another way (unless you want to spend hours spacing out different fonts and font sizes in Word) and it looks REALLY great hanging in your home.

And one last tip for the perfect presentation once you make your eye chart:

FRAME IT nicely. In a large frame and almost always with a mat. Mats always make everything look much nicer and cleaner. Did you notice ALL my pictures above were framed to match the decor? That’s what makes these charts really pop. If you’re looking for a couple cheap framing options:
